Guru of the Agra gharana, Ustad Ammanat Hussain Khansaheb is a Veritable treasure house of
knowledge with a multifaceted repertoire of old and new bandishe of the gharana. Shy and
unassuming by nature, he has remained away from the glare and glamour and hype that is
nowadays considered to be the mark of a great musician. His father, the Agra gharana
maestro Ustad Nanne Khan initiated him into music. At an early age of ten the Baroda
University awarded him a diploma in music. Hereafter his knowledge progressed at a rapid
pace as he imbibed the khandani vidya from maestros of his gharana such as Ustad Vilayat
Hussain Khansaheb, Ustad Khadim Hussain Khan Saheb, Ustad Gulam Rasool Khansaheb, Ustad
Anwar Hussain Khansaheb, Ustad Sharafat Hussain Khansaheb, Ustad Latafat Hussain
Khansaheb, Ustad Yunus Hussain Khansaheb and Ustad Gulam Ahmed Khansaheb.
A creative
genius, he has composed innumerable bandishes in rare as well as aam ragas. His
compositions are brilliant and have an Old World charm. He infuses creativity in his
teaching and comes across as a teacher immersed in the greatness of traditional music. As
a performing artiste he is a singer par excellence who moves his audience through a
perfect blend of tradition and innovation and vindicates his legacy to the great Agra
Gharana.
